The Bible relates that shortly after entering the Promised Land, Joshua built an altar upon Mount Ebal overlooking the ancient city of Shechem. Excavations in the early 1980s, led by the late Prof. Adam Zertal, discovered a prominent early altar site on Mount Ebal. One man who helped identify the site as an altar was Zvi Koenisgberg.
On today’s program, host Brent Nagtegaal speaks with Mr. Koenigsberg about the 30-year saga to acknowledge the Mount Ebal altar and, more generally, about scholarship in the world of biblical archaeology.
