‘And Rehoboam Built … Lachish’

An interview with archaeologist Prof. Yosef Garfinkel on the eve of new excavations

The Bible states that King David’s grandson Rehoboam built numerous cities in Judah, including the important site of Lachish. Yet until recently, there was no corresponding archaeological evidence of late-10th-century b.c.e. construction at the site.

On today’s program, host Brent Nagtegaal goes to Tel Lachish to talk with excavation director Prof. Yosef Garfinkel about his team’s discoveries at the site from the time of Rehoboam, as well as to preview his new excavations set to begin on June 26, 2022.
