New Judges-Period Inscription Discovered at Tel Lachish
Proving the early use of Joseph’s title mentioned in Genesis
A brand new inscription from Lachish, discovered just last year and published in a recent Jerusalem Journal of Archaeology article, reveals the use of word šalit in the Levant as early as 3,200 years ago, at the end of the Late Bronze Age. As revealed in Genesis, šalit was the title used to describe Joseph’s role as “governor” of the land.
On today’s program, Brent Nagtegaal discusses the implications the discovery has on the Joseph narrative, as well as the emergence of writing in Canaan in the Late Bronze Age.
