Jerusalem Ophel Excavation 2023 Preview

The team from Hebrew University and the Armstrong Institute of Biblical Archaeology is about to start excavations again in the royal quarter of ancient Jerusalem—the Ophel. This follows on from a successful 2022 season in which the team began to uncover a Second Temple Period, 2,000-year-old monumental building at the foot of the southern wall of the Temple Mount, as well as remains from the Great Revolt. On today’s program, host Brent Nagtegaal talks with excavation director and head of the Hebrew University’s Institute of Archaeology, Prof. Uzi Leibner, about the significance of the upcoming Ophel dig.
